Aam Ras is Samiksha Borikar and Sukrit Nagaraj.
In 2012, I started photography, shooting the local music scene in Bombay. In no time I was playing with lighting setups and shooting portraits. As the years rolled on and as I shot and experimented more with the camera, my interests began leaning towards documenting stories that were not staged or made-up. Being an introvert by nature, it was easier for me to let go of directing my subjects and becoming simply an observer. This influenced my shooting as well as my editing style.
When I met Samiksha in 2014, she was shooting a variety of events at the Hive. She graduated on to shooting fashion and commercial work in 2015. Her love for colours and patterns can easily be seen in her photographs and her edits. Her impeccable sense of visual design is evident in her styling, and in her compositions.
We started shooting weddings together in 2015. Three years later, after shooting more than a couple of dozen weddings and close to a hundred events across the city, we formed Aam Ras.
Despite our diverse interests, Samiksha and I share common values, and it is that reason why we decided to operate as a small team, be selective with our projects and not operate as a big business unit. We understand how significant the day of the wedding is for a person and the need to treasure the priceless moments on that day. We feel lucky to be a part of this “once-in-a-lifetime” celebration.
PS: Of late, we have also started dabbling in journalling of family portraits and cultural events.
